Lorena Wiebes won the first bunch sprint of this Women’s Tour de France 2023 at the end of the 3rd stage. The Dutchwoman, big favorite of the day, signed her 3rd career success on the roads of the Grande Boucle.
This Tuesday the 3rd stage of the women’s Tour de France started from Collonges-la-Rouge to reach Montignac-Lascaux after 147 kilometers of racing. A hilly playground and therefore potentially conducive to breakaways. Kathrin Hammes (EF Education-TIBCO-SVB) tried her luck and managed to slip away from the peloton. But the beautiful breakaway of the German lasted only 60 kilometers. It was finally Julie Van De Velde (Fenix-Deceuninck) who signed the good shot of the day. His feat lasted until 150 meters from the finish in Dordogne.

The Belgian dug a two-minute gap up front and even seemed to hold on, crossing the red flame with a 9-second lead. Nevertheless, more was needed to defeat a peloton launched at her heels with conviction, under the impetus of the sprinter formations. Among these, the Batavian European champion Lorena Wiebes (Team SD Worx), considered the fastest woman in the peloton, dominated in the final explanation her compatriot Marianne Vos (Team Jumbo-Visma Women) and the Belgian Lotte Kopecky (Team SD Worx).
3rd victory in the Tour de France
Lorena Wiebes won her 10th victory of the season and the 3rd of her career on the Tour de France. As for the combative of the day, Julie Van de Velde for her part failed in 10th place. In the general classification, Lotte Kopecky retains the yellow jersey ahead of Germany’s Liane Lippert (Movistar) and South African Ashleigh Moolman Pasio (AG Insurance – Soudal Quick-Step Cycling Team). On the French side, we can regret the abandonment of Lucie Jounier (Team Coop – Hitec Products).
