As the process launched by the FIA nears its conclusion, Stefano Domenicali has confirmed that an eleventh team will only be accepted on the condition that it brings value to Formula 1.
Stefano Domenicali does not budge. Last February, in particular following the declarations of the Andretti family, the International Automobile Federation (FIA) officially launched a call for applications, the aim of which is the arrival of an eleventh or even a twelfth team on the starting grid in Formula 1. While several candidacies have been announced, in particular that of the British team Hitech, the process launched by the FIA should be concluded within a few weeks and the leaders of F1 will have their say .
For many months, most of the teams already in place in the paddock have been up against the arrival of a new team by 2026. It is particularly a question of the “added value” of what could be an eleventh or a twelfth team. Recently interviewed by the British magazine AutosportF1 boss Stefano Domenicali confirmed to be on the same position.
Domenicali does not want to say too much
« On this point, I will not change my mind. “Said the former director of Scuderia Ferrari who assures that” it is not a question of money “. “As we have always said, we need to make sure the decision is good for business, added Stefano Domenicali. And it is what I believe is the duty of the FIA and ours, together, to move in this direction. It is therefore a decision that will be taken in the next two months.. Nevertheless, the Italian leader admits that there are “positive points and negative points” to the possible validation of the file submitted by the Andretti family with the support of the General Motors group via its Cadillac brand.
Adding not wanting to “reveal or anticipate anything” vis-à-vis the process put in place by the FIA, Stefano Domenicali assures that everything is done “very seriously and correctly”. The answer to the question of whether F1 will welcome a new team for the first time since 2016 and the arrival of Haas will arrive very soon.
