World No. 9 Daria Kasatkina made short work of Peyton Stearns to reach the knockout stages of Roland-Garros.
Semi-finalist at Roland-Garros last year, Daria Kasatkina had not won a Grand Slam match since (she had however been banned from Wimbledon as a Russian). But finding clay in Paris obviously does her the greatest good, since the world No. 9 is the first player to have qualified for the knockout stages of this 2023 edition.
The Russian was up against the 69th in the world, the American Peyton Stearns (21), who had never won a Grand Slam match before going to Paris, and she won 6-0, 6- 1 in 56 minutes. Kasatkina, author of 93% of first serves, a rather rare performance, did not have the slightest break point to defend.
She only lost five points on her face-off! Breaks at 0-0, 2-0 and 4-0 in the first set and at 0-0, 3-1 and 5-1 (6 out of 8 converted break points) allowed him to win this match and now wait for compatriot Anna Blinkova or Ukrainian Elina Svitolina for a meeting that will necessarily be special.
