According to information from ESPN, a fight between English heavyweights Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury could be held in September.
They are both heavyweights, are both English, are almost the same age and are or have been world champions. But Tyson Fury (34) and Anthony Joshua (33) have never faced each other before. However, this could be the case next September, with the WBC belt on the line. ESPN indeed reveals that a fight between the two heavyweights could be organized in the United Kingdom, and that discussions were started this week between the promoters of the two boxers. Negotiations had already taken place last fall, but were unsuccessful.
Tyson Fury (33 wins in 35 fights, including 24 KOs), current WBC world champion, was to face Oleksandr Usyk at Wembley on April 29, but negotiations failed, and the “Gypsy King” is therefore looking for a new opponent. And so it could be “AJ” (25 wins in 28 fights including 22 knockouts), who had lost his WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO titles against this same Usyk in September 2021, before being beaten again by the Ukrainian in August 2022.
Highly anticipated clashes between heavyweights
This Fury-Joshua clash is still far from over, as the second part of 2023 could be rich in big fights, even if nothing is finalized yet. always according to ESPNa fantastic boxing evening could indeed be organized in Saudi Arabia in December, with a fight between Fury and Usyk, and another between Joshua and Deontay Wilder, the American boxer whom Fury had beaten for the WBC belt in 2021.
Fury would not be against it, but would like to box in September as well. But Joshua could also face another Briton, Dillian Whyte, on August 12, whom he knocked out in 2015 at the O2 Arena. Lots of rumors, then, at the moment, but boxing’s heavyweight agenda should become clearer in the coming weeks…
