This Wednesday, the Italian Alberto Dainese (Team DSM) won the 17th stage of the 2023 edition of the Tour of Italy in a sprint.
He was the fastest. This Wednesday, the Italian Alberto Dainese won, in the sprint, during the 17th stage of the 2023 edition of the Tour of Italy. After a total of 197 kilometers of effort, between Pergine Valsugana and Caorle. At the finish, the resident of the DSM training is narrowly ahead of his compatriot Jonathan Milan (Bahrain-Victorious), the current wearer of the cyclamen jersey. While the third place of the day goes to the Australian Michael Matthews (Jayco AlUla). This stage served as a transition stage, with no difficulty to report for the various riders of the peloton still in the race. The general classification obviously remains unchanged and the pink jersey remains on the shoulders of Briton Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers).
The breakaway never had a lead of more than three minutes
In the morning breakaway of the day, four men then had the opportunity to leave, and even quite quickly. They are the Frenchman Thomas Champion (Cofidis), the Belgian Senne Leysen (Alpecin-Deceuninck), the Spaniard Diego Pablo Sevilla (EOLO-Kometa) but also the Briton Charlie Quarterman (Team Corratec-Selle Italia). With a lead that never really exceeded three minutes. The peloton, led by teams Bahrain-Victorious, DSM, Movistar and Astana Qazaqstan, never stopped controlling this breakaway, and the final outcome of this stage was never really in doubt. There was going to be a bunch sprint. At the finish, Dainese therefore proved to be the strongest. Even if this sprint was therefore particularly tight.
