Criticized on social networks for an unsportsmanlike gesture, Hugo Gaston has found a defender: Corentin Moutet.
Hugo Gaston was fined 133,000 euros for “unsportsmanlike conduct” during his second round match at the Masters 1000 in Madrid. The French player, who had deliberately dropped a ball during a set point in favor of Borna Coric, saw his sanction reduced under conditions on appeal on Monday.

On social networks, the gesture of Hugo Gaston has been particularly criticized. A web user points out, for example, that the fine is “justified”because the players“are meant to be role models for young people”. Corentin Moutet decided to respond to this message, defending his “colleague”. “I would have liked to see you sir at 22, having to be perfect and filmed every week. I would have liked to see you having to ‘be a role model’ for young people when at that age most people are still looking for what they want to do in life.said the 61st player in the world.
We don’t give a damn about that! You are supposed to be role models for young people and you accept this kind of behavior! The almond is perfectly justified as long as there is recidivism.

The ATP clarified that Hugo Gaston’s fine “will be reduced to 72,000 euros under certain conditions, in particular that Gaston no longer commits such an offense over a probationary period of twelve months”. Recipient of a wild card for Roland-Garros, the latter is guaranteed to win at least 69,000 euros in the coming days.
