A few days before the start of Roland-Garros, Carlos Alcaraz returned to world number one on Monday despite his defeat against Maroszan in the third round in Rome. Daniil Medvedev, winner of the tournament, climbs to second place, while Ugo Humbert is again French number 1.
Carlos Alcaraz arrives at Roland-Garros in the shoes of world number 1. Despite his unexpected exit from the track in Rome in the 3rd round against Fabian Marozsan when he had not yet lost a match on clay in Europe since the start of the season, the Spanish prodigy is back at the top of the ranking on Monday. The youngest world number 1 in history, who had already held the helm after his coronation at the US Open last year, is ahead of Daniil Medvedev, titled Sunday in the Italian capital, where he had yet never won only one game before this year.
Novak Djokovic, who will be one of the other big favorites in Paris from next week, drops to third position. Holger Rune, one of the men in good shape even if he lost again in the final on Sunday in Rome (this had already been the case in Monte-Carlo), now appears in 6th place. Best career ranking for the young Dane.
Humbert, again number 1 in France
On the French side, Ugo Humbert’s new victory on the Challenger circuit, Saturday in Bordeaux, two weeks after also lifting the trophy in Cagliari, allows Messin to become number 1 in France again and at the same time find the Top 40, with twelve places gained in the standings (38th). Nice operation also for Grégoire Barrère (+8, 55th), Corentin Moutet (+6, 61st), Arthur Rinderknech (+11, 78th) and Luca Van Assche (+6, 79th).
