The poll organized by Marca on Real Madrid’s season is quite cruel towards Karim Benzema, who does not even get the average in the ratings given by Internet users.
There are still a few La Liga games left, but the elimination in the Champions League felt like the end of the season for Real Madrid. Marca has also decided to take stock, right now, by asking its Internet users about the Merengues season.
The result is quite hard on Karim Benzema, especially when taking the ratings given by Madrid fans. The prize goes to Thibaut Courtois (8.34/10), widely acclaimed, ahead of Vinicius Jr (6.97/10), Eduardo Camavinga (6.51/10) and Rodrygo (6.24/10). A year after his Ballon d’Or season, where he carried Real to a Liga-Champions League double, Benzema does not even get the average with a terrible 4.75/10. This is the worst rating for regular incumbents. The only ones who do worse are substitutes (Lunin, Vallejo, Odriozola, Mariano), an injured regular (Ferland Mendy) and the giga-flop Eden Hazard (2.68/10).
Two other issues also hurt for Benzema. According to Marca internet users, the priority for Real should be to recruit full-backs and a new center forward to compete with the Frenchman. This is the answer chosen by 84%, well ahead of the two other solutions proposed, namely to stick to the recruitment of Jude Bellingham (5%) or to do everything to recruit Kylian Mbappé (11%).
Worse, Benzema comes last in the wish list when it comes to extending players whose contract is nearing the end of their contract. In order, it is… Nacho whose renewal is most desired (by 77% of those questioned). Follow Kroos (73%), Modric (68%), Asensio (62%), Ceballos (60%) and therefore Benzema (58%).
