Baptiste Lafond behind bars

Baptiste Lafond (24), the winger from Agen, who plays in Pro D2, was indicted for rape and imprisoned for acts which allegedly occurred in Bayonne in May 2022, the Bayonne prosecutor’s office said on Thursday. . The son of former international Jean-Baptiste Lafond was playing in Rouen at the time.

The Pro D2 has been spreading out in the columns of the miscellaneous news section lately. A few hours ago, the Provence Rugby club informed us that one of its star players, scrum half Jonathan Ruru, had been fired for hitting the wife of one of his teammates during a one evening (which had led to him being later corrected by another of his teammates). In the process, it was the turn of the Agen club to be tainted by another legal case, and much more serious still, concerning there also one of its players: Baptiste Lafond (24 years old).

The young scrum half of the SUA was indicted for rape and imprisoned for facts which would have taken place in May 2022 in Bayonne, revealed the parquet floor of the Basque city. “The player was indicted on March 24 for rape and placed in pre-trial detention after the opening of a judicial investigation. The alleged rape would have taken place during an evening following a match between Rowing and Rouen, Lafond’s previous club, which had played its last match that day under Rouen colors.

Placed in pre-trial detention while the investigation continues

According to information from South West, the son of former international Jean-Baptiste Lafond (37 caps) allegedly abused a young woman during the evening in question. In the newspaper, the president of Agen Jean-François Fonteneau, who says he is “surprised by this announcement”, recognizes that he “had heard of this affair” and that the former player of Stade Français and Racing 92 had “informed (his leaders) that he had a problem”. However, specifies Fonteneau, “we did not go into the details and the case seemed closed”. The alleged perpetrator was heard last October by the police, then released.

On March 24, he was placed in pre-trial detention – while the investigation continued – at the Mont-de-Marsan penitentiary center. Lafont, under contract at the SUA until June, disputes the facts. Its president, meanwhile, assures that the player is “a problem-free and charming boy”. “If he is imprisoned, it is because there must be a body of evidence, but it will also allow him to perhaps prove his innocence”, nevertheless adds Jean-François Fonteneau in South West.
