The Higher Management Council of the National Basketball League has decided to sanction ASVEL with a withdrawal of two victories and a fine of 100,000 euros because the contracts of Nando De Colo and Jeoffrey Lauvergne are not in conformity.
Last summer, ASVEL struck a blow by bringing French internationals Nando De Colo and Jeoffrey Lauvergne back to Betclic Elite. But were the contracts signed by the two tricolor basketball stars established in good and due form? It would seem not, because the Superior Management Council of the National Basketball League has just announced heavy sanctions against the triple champion club of France: it will have to pay a fine of 100,000 euros and sees itself withdraw two victories in the standings of the Betclic Elite 2022-23.
“Since September 14, 2022, the Superior Management Council has repeatedly asked the LDLC ASVEL club to send it the documents necessary for the accomplishment of its mission concerning two players from the club’s professional workforce. These requests have also been made to the players concerned. These requests have not been the subject of a satisfactory response with regard to the requirements of the Superior Management Council.writes the instance in a press release.
Players paid in image rights?
The problem would come from the fact that ASVEL has set up a special arrangement to pay its two stars. Journalist Romain Molina notably revealed last month that De Colo and Lauvergne were paid mostly in image rights from an Israeli company. Some Betclic Elite clubs had been aware for several months and asked the League to investigate the matter.
The club led by Tony Parker immediately appealed, but in the meantime, following this sanction, ASVEL only has thirteen victories instead of fifteen. This does not make it lose places in the standings (5th place), but TJ Parker’s team, which hoped to finish the regular season in second place behind Monaco, can probably put an end to this objective, with now five victories of less than Boulogne-Levallois, dolphin of the Roca Team while there are ten games left to play.
