Oslo: The women's sprint postponed to Saturday!

Due to the fog, the women’s sprint in Oslo scheduled for Friday afternoon has been postponed to Saturday. There will therefore be no prosecution. A good accounting operation for Julia Simon.

Change of program in Oslo! Even if spring will appear in a few days, a thick fog has come to interfere in the Norwegian resort of Holmenkollen, which hosts the last stage of the Biathlon World Cup, and the women’s sprint which was to be held this Friday. afternoon will ultimately not take place. Initially, given the lack of visibility, the organizers had announced a postponement of the start of the first bib by thirty minutes, so at 3:50 p.m. and not 3:20 p.m.

But the weather conditions did not improve during this time, and the International Biathlon Federation (IBU) therefore decided to postpone the race to Saturday. It remains to set the schedule, after consultation with the other winter disciplines (alpine skiing and cross-country skiing in particular) to avoid overlaps, knowing that the men’s pursuit is already scheduled for 12:45 p.m.

Already a small globe for Simon… while waiting for the big one!

Basically, the program for this women’s stage in Oslo provided for a sprint on Friday, a pursuit on Saturday and a mass-start on Sunday. The pursuit is definitively cancelled, while the mass-start will indeed take place on Sunday, unless the weather conditions are not favourable, of course. The cancellation of the last pursuit of the season therefore means that Julia Simon is guaranteed to win the small globe of the discipline, she who was at the top of the classification with 53 points ahead of Elvira Oeberg. The 26-year-old biathlete wins the first small globe of her career. But of course, it’s the big crystal globe she has in mind. Now with two races to finish the season and no longer three, the native of Albertville has come a little closer to the Holy Grail thanks to the fog.

She is still 144 points ahead of Dorothea Wierer, but there are now only 180 left to win at most (90 for each victory)! The Italian is also the only biathlete who can still deprive her of the big globe, since Lisa Vittozzi, Elvira Oeberg and the future retiree Denise Hermann-Wick are no longer in the race, following this cancellation. From Saturday, Julia Simon could be assured of the big globe, the first for a French woman since Sandrine Bailly in 2005.
