The new president of the French Rugby Federation will be known on June 14 at the latest after a second vote. The first, which will make it possible to recompose the steering committee, will take place in May. The current president of the FFR is Alexandre Martinez, appointed interim last month following the resignation of Bernard Laporte.
It will be necessary to wait until June 14 to know the name of Bernard Laporte’s successor at the head of the French Rugby Federation. Since the resignation of the former coach of the XV of France, the president is Alexandre Martinez, ex-treasurer under the Laporte era appointed interim last month after Patrick Buisson, chosen by Laporte to take over during his withdrawal and pending his appeal trial, was challenged by the amateur clubs, called to express their feelings via a referendum.
Friday, the FFR lifted the veil on how the next electoral ballots would take place, with the culmination of the final vote, and the name of the new president of the body. Recalling that the votes would be in accordance with the recommendations of the county of ethics and deontology of French rugby, in charge of ensuring the smooth running of the electoral operations, the FFR announced that the ballots, two in number, would be held in quick succession, first in May and then in June, the date of the final vote. At the end of May, from May 24 to 26, a first vote, in the form of by-elections, will make it possible to recompose the steering committee of the FFR by replacing the vacant posts following the numerous resignations, both on the side of the members of the opposition Oval Together, dear to Florian Grill, than those of the representatives of the National Rugby League, and in the first place of its president René Bouscatel.
The next election will be in the fall of 2024
A few days later, between June 12 and 14, the second stage of this vote will be held. The most anticipated, especially since Laporte, re-elected three years ago for a four-year term but sentenced last December to two years in prison suspended for corruption, influence peddling, illegal taking of interests, misuse of property social security and concealment of misuse of corporate assets in the context of the Altrad affair, threw in the towel. If for the first of the two votes, the deadline for applications has been set for April 24, for the second (which should also take place mainly by correspondence), the candidates will have until May 31 to make themselves known. The new president of the FFR will remain in office until the next election, which will take place in the fall of 2024. He will therefore be at work during the World Cup in France.
