All Star Game replacements revealed

All Star Game replacements revealed

The list of 14 replacements for the NBA All Star Game (February 19 in Salt Lake City), chosen by the coaches, was unveiled on Thursday.

We knew the ten holders of the NBA All Star Game since last week, we now know the fourteen replacements. If the starting five were determined by a combined vote of fans (50%), journalists (25%) and players (25%), it was the coaches who chose the replacements. They will be distributed among the teams just before the match (a novelty this year), by the two captains LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpoknowing that there has been no distinction between East and West for some years now.

Four rookies at the All Star Game

Among the substitutes, four players will honor their very first selection at the All Star Game, thanks to their good first part of the season with their team. They are Tyrese Haliburton in the East and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jaren Jackson Jr. and Lauri Markkanen in the West. Paul George (8th selection), Damian Lillard (7th), and DeDamar Rozan and Joel Embiid (6th) are the most regulars. Among the great absentees, we note the names of James Harden, Trae Young, Anthony Davis or even De’Aron Fox, who pay for their injuries, the presence of another player on their team, or their poor collective results. But let’s not forget that teams can change between now and the match, scheduled in sixteen days, due to injuries. Kevin Durant, Luka Doncic and Zion Williamson, all holders, are currently in the infirmary, for example. On the French side, no player will have the honor of this star game, Rudy Gobert, selected for the last three years, not having been selected. But this is nothing out of a scandal and the Wolves pivot should be able to hold back his tears this time around.
