Thanks in particular to a goal from Karim Benzema in extra time, Real Madrid beat Atlético (3-1) on Thursday evening in the quarter-finals of the King’s Cup.
Between a Real Madrid too often mediocre lately and an Atlético which is barely waking up, the Madrid derby finally kept all its promises, Thursday evening, at Santiago-Bernabéu. This quarter-final of the King’s Cup was played in extra time and a certain Karim Benzema scored the qualifying goal for the Merengues (3-1)!
The formation of Diego Simeone however held the good end for a long time, after opening the scoring in the 19th minute thanks to Alvaro Morata, on a dazzling collective action. Antoine Griezmann, ubiquitous, failed to double the bet. It was an individual action of genius from Rodrygo, who entered 10 minutes earlier, which allowed Real to equalize and snatch extra time.
The match tipped in a few moments in favor of Casa Blanca. Stefan Savic took two yellow cards in two minutes and was sent off in the 99th minute, before the recovery of “KB9” (104th), for his 5th goal since the 2022 World Cup. Vinicius spun to score Real’s 3rd goal ( 120th+1).
