Precious for amateurs, the Coupe de France offers an after all secondary endowment for elite clubs.
The Ligue 1 teams entered the competition this weekend in the Coupe de France, with already damage since the quarter of the elite fell: Strasbourg, Montpellier, Clermont, Nice and Monaco having lowered their flag prematurely, pending the verdict of the ultimate poster between Lille and Troyes.
This round of 32e final alone brings in 30,000 euros to each of its participants. 52,500, even, for teams from lower divisions having gone through other levels. The qualification for the 16e final guarantees it 50,000 euros more, a nice ticket already of 102,500 euros for a club such as Olympique de Strasbourg Koenigshoffen, resident of Regional 1 (sixth division) and executioner of Clermont Foot on penalties.
Just over €2m for the winner
Another example of the potential gains of the Coupe de France, Hyères 83 FC, eliminated by OM, gets away with its 52,500 euros commitment in 32e final plus the proceeds of the match left by his Marseille opponent, i.e. 38,000 euros in bonuses for a total of 90,500 euros collected. Not negligible for a National 2 formation.
Depending on the obstacles overcome, the round of 16 will bring in an additional 70,000 euros; quarters 135,000 euros; the half 280,000 euros; the final from 950,000 euros to 1.5 million euros depending on the outcome, happy or not. On arrival, a victory in the Coupe de France – excluding receipts – promises a global budget of 2,065,000 euros to a club representing the elite; 2,087,500 euros if it comes from a lower division.
