The Roca Team pulls off the feat!

Monaco signed a magnificent feat by winning 94-95 on the floor of Real Madrid after extra time, thanks in particular to a huge Mike James. The Monegasques are now second in the standings!

Fifteen seconds to play, 88-84 for Real Madrid, Jordan Loyd on his way to the hospital… and in the end it was Monaco who won! ASM signed a monumental feat during the 12th day of the Euroleague, going to win on the floor of Real after extra time (94-95) after coming close to defeat. The Monegasques managed the end of the match magnificently and were able to count on a Mike James of the big nights, who finished with 28 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists. Monaco have most often been trailing in this game, but have never been taken down. In a first half where the two defenses were not really there, Real and its army of French players (Causeur, Poirier, Cornelie, Yabusele) had a six-point lead at the end of the first quarter ( 23-17), then ten in the heart of the second (45-35) and finally three when returning to the locker room (48-45).

Heroic Mike James

But Monaco tightened the bolts in the second period, like Yakuba Ouattara, and that was reflected on the scoreboard. The Roca Team quickly equalized and then went ahead several times during the third quarter, which they finally won 14-20 (62-65, 30th). With 7’24 remaining, the score was 68-68, and the match then went crazy. Real signed a 10-2, in the wake of their great Walter Tavares (17pts, 18rbds in total) then still led 83-77 with 2’22 remaining and 86-81 with 1’24, while Monaco missed a lot of free throws (24/37 in total). Victory in the pocket? Well no ! Elie Okobo had a 3-point shot (86-84) then Tavares put in his two shots (88-84). That’s when 19-pointer Jordan Loyd had to be stretchered out, wearing an oxygen mask, after receiving an unintentional blow to the nose from Yabusele. After a long stoppage of play, Mike James managed an improbable long distance shot in front of Tavares, getting the fault, and he therefore snatched the extension (88-88). An extension where Monaco was led only thirty seconds (90-88), before Diallo, then throws from James and Blossomgame made the difference (90-93). Musa handed Real to -1 with 27 seconds remaining but ASM managed very well and therefore offered themselves one of the greatest victories in their history! The Roca Team is now second in the standings, one win behind Fenerbahçe, before receiving another cador, Barça, next week.
