By winning the 2022 Ballon d’Or, the Frenchman became the second oldest player to claim the accolade.
Karim Benzema will have had to wait until his 18e year with the professionals to accomplish his dream. As expected, the Real Madrid striker, who had never done better than his fourth place won last season, has indeed won the Ballon d’Or 2022 and entered his name in the annals of the trophy.
Karim Benzema is indeed the second oldest winner. The former Lyonnais won the distinction at 34 years, 9 months and 30 days and only one player was older when receiving the trophy: Stanley Matthews, victorious at 41 years, 10 months and 17 days, in 1956 , in the first edition.
