While playing his first final on the ATP circuit this Sunday, Marc-Andrea Huesler won in two sets against Holger Rune, seeded number 5, to win the Sofia tournament.
For a first attempt, it’s a masterstroke! Qualified this Saturday for his very first final on the ATP circuit, Marc-Andrea Huesler won the title in Sofia at the expense of Holger Rune, seeded number 5 in the Bulgarian capital. A final that the 95th in the world got off to a flying start. Indeed, Marc-Andrea Huesler took the Dane’s service from the start but had to cling firmly to this early advantage.
Indeed, Holger Rune was able to raise his voice to get a break point twice. Well in his match, the Swiss was able to dismiss them one by one before serving to win the first set. The first opportunity was good for the 95th in the world. An ascendancy that he could have confirmed from the first game of the second set. But, this time, Holger Rune held his faceoff.
A dream realised! ???

Huesler not tense by the stake
Therefore, neither of the two players was frankly put in difficulty on his face-off for a good while. At the gates of the decisive game, the 31st world placed a new boost on the service of Marc-Andrea Huesler. The result was two set points obtained by the Dane but none could be converted and it was a tiebreak that concluded this second round. Holger Rune took the lead first but saw his opponent immediately pick up and then miss a first match point in reception.
The Dane then had two new chances to extend the match in a third set but the Swiss dismissed them before chaining three points won consecutively. On his second match point, Marc-Andrea Huesler sealed the fate of this final (6-4, 7-6 in 1h42′) and won his first career title. This will be accompanied by a jump in the ATP rankings, confirming its status as the first Swiss a few days after Roger Federer’s retirement. Holger Rune, meanwhile, will enter the Top 30 on Monday.
