The United States will defend their world title on Saturday in Sydney, after their very easy 83-43 victory against Canada in the semi-finals. Next opponent: Australia or China.
Apart from the one between China and France, the quarter-finals of the Women’s Basketball World Cup did not hold the slightest suspense. It was even worse in the first semi-final! In Sydney, the United States, big favorites of the competition, made short work of Canada, winning 83-43! Victorious in seven of the last nine world championships, the Americans will defend their title this Saturday, and they will not really be tired by the efforts made in the half… Launched by a 15-0 in just over four minutes, Team USA did not was ever conducted in this game. At the end of the quarter, the Canadians were already twenty points behind (7-27), then the gap increased to +28 in the second quarter, and finally +24 at halftime (21-45) . The United States accelerated again in the third quarter (29-67, 30th) and widened the gap to +44 (35th), before finally winning by forty points. A real demonstration, symbolized by Breanna Stewart, who finished with 17 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists, and A’Ja Wilson (15pts, 12rbds). Opposite, no Canadian has reached the 10-point mark (8 for Laeticia Amihere), the Maple Leaf team finishing the match with 22% success, including a sad 4/26 from 3 points (48 % and 6/14 for the United States). In the final, Team USA will start as favorites against Australia or China. Hoping that the match will still be a little close…
Breanna Stewart has her fourth three-point bucket ????
