Ekaterina Alexandrova took the best of Jelena Ostapenko, in two sets (7-6 (4), 6-0), to afford the title on the side of Seoul.
She knew how to impose her law. Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, 24th player in the world and seeded n°2, won the WTA 250 tournament in Seoul, South Korea, on hard courts, after her victory in the final against Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, 19th player in the world and seed series n°1, in two sets (7-6 (4), 6-0) and 1h25 of play. In the first set, after the first game of service won by the Latvian, the breaks then followed, on both sides. Led 3-1, the Russian then took it twice before erasing this new handicap, before saving, in stride, two new break points. Finally, at 3-4, Ekaterina Alexandrova lost a final serve. But while Jelena Ostapenko was serving, just after, for the win of this first set, she was unbroken, blank.
Alexandrova finishes freewheeling
At 6-5, the better ranked of the two obtained a new break point, synonymous then with a first set ball, but without success. The two players then followed up with the tie-break. A particularly close decisive game but which the lower ranked of the two ended up winning (7-6 (4)). Finally, the second and last round was one-sided. The 19th player in the world lost her three services, including the last blank. A last break to offer this meeting to his opponent of the day, who thus ends on a bicycle wheel (6-0). For her thirteenth final, the third of the year, after Dubai and Eastbourne, Jelena Ostapenko will not win her sixth title, the second of the year after Dubai. The Latvian will console herself by climbing again to 17th place in the world. For her part, Ekaterina Alexandrova was playing in her fifth final and won her third title, the second this year after ‘s-Hertogenbosch. A performance that will allow him to know his best ranking, with the 21st place in the world.
