The Welshman left Real Madrid to join Los Angeles FC. Where he will receive a salary much lower than the previous one.
After several difficult seasons, Gareth Bale has only one goal left: to prepare for the 2022 World Cup. If he has already taken his selection to the semi-finals of the Euro, against Portugal 2016, the Welshman has never participated in the World Cup before. And for good reason, his country has not played in the World Cup since 1958.
To secure playing time before Qatar, Bale could have returned home to Cardiff. It would have been a beautiful symbol, the choice of the heart. Instead, the former Tottenham player chose to fly to the United States, since he signed up with Los Angeles FC.

For those wondering, Bale didn’t go to the United States for the money. He should indeed receive “only” 1.5 million euros per year, more than eight times less than what he earned at Real Madrid (about 13 million euros annually).
Thereby, according to Marca, Bale won’t even be among the top 10 earners in MLS. This ranking is dominated by the former Lyonnais Xherdan Shaqiri, with his 7 million euros per year. LA FC’s highest-paid player, Carlos Vela, earns 2.14 million euros per season, but his bonuses can allow him to reach 3.8 million euros per year in income.
