Seeded n°8 in Nottingham, Magda Linette was eliminated in the round of 16 of the Nottingham tournament. A stadium for which Alison Riske (No. 6) qualified, whose match was interrupted overnight on Tuesday.
Seven of the eight seeds in the Nottingham tournament reached the first round (only Emma Raducanu, n°2, had failed, forced to retire against Golubic), but the first seed entered in the round of 16 took the gate. This is Magda Linette (n°8), who suffered the law of Tereza Martincova. The Czech won 6-2, 7-6 in 1h40. She largely dominated the first set by breaking at 1-1 and 3-1, then came back from 1-3 to 3-3 in the second, before winning easily in the tie-break (7-3). Martincova will face the Chinese Shuai Zhang, 41st player in the world and seeded n°4, in the following round, who took out the Briton Jodie Anna Burrage, 235th player in the world and beneficiary of a wild card, in two sets (6-2, 7 -6 (4)) and 1h24 of play.

Sixth-seeded Alison Riske was the last to reach the round of 16 after rain delayed Tuesday’s program and forced her to stop her match against Daria Snigur due to of the night. The American won 7-5, 6-3 in 1h28. Led 3-1 from the start of the match, they equalized at 3-3, then saved two break points at 5-5, before scoring the decisive break at 6-5. In the second set, she was again broken from the start, but took the opposing serve in stride, then at 4-2, to clinch the victory. Next opponent: Caroline Garcia.
