According to information from the Tass agency taken over by Nordic Magazine, the single mixed relay in biathlon could make its appearance on the program of the Winter Games in 2026. This is what the IBU would like.
And if the biathlon program at the Winter Games was enriched a little more? This Saturday, the specialized website Nordic Magazine repeats information from the Russian press agency Tass and tells us that a request, formulated by the International Biathlon Federation, that is the IBU, to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), has thus been made in this sense. And precisely, the IOC could examine this famous request during this month of June. In this famous program, a new event could thus be added. And this famous event is the simple mixed relay. Therefore, if this request were successful, this sport would thus have a total of twelve events at the Winter Games. This event could then make its appearance at the next edition of the Winter Games, i.e. in the year 2026 in Italy, and more precisely in Milan and Cortina.
The single mixed relay in the World Cup since 2015
On the occasion of the last edition of the Winter Games, which took place last February, on the side of Beijing in China, the biathlon was then entitled to a total of eleven events, and more precisely five for the men, five for the women as well as one mixed, namely the sprint, the pursuit, the individual, the mass-start, the relay as well as the mixed relay. In four years, the biathlon events will then take place near Antholz. This famous single mixed relay is already enjoying the heyday of the Biathlon World Cup, since it was integrated into it in 2015. On the occasion of this famous event, each nation must thus present a man and a woman, with a total of four relay passes, for six and 7.5 kilometers in all, two shots lying down and two shots standing each. As in a classic relay, the two athletes concerned thus benefit from a total of three additional pickaxes for five targets.
