Incredible scene in Brazil where angry Gremio Porto Alegre supporters entered the pitch to destroy the VAR facilities.
To those who thought VAR would calm controversy over refereeing in football, supporters of Gremio Porto Alegre gave a scathing response. In the middle of the match, angry fans of the Brazilian club squarely entered the pitch to destroy the VAR facilities, and in particular the control screen which allows the referees to review the disputed actions.
Gremio supporters took to the pitch and damaged the VAR facility after Elias Monael’s goal against Palmeiras that should have made it 2-2 was ruled out for offside.

The reason ? The 2-2 goal denied to Elias for a millimeter offside, almost imperceptible in slow motion or still image (see below). The drop too much for the supporters of Gremio who have decided to break everything.

The meeting finally ended with a score of 3-1 in favor of the visitors, Palmeiras. And the incidents continued after the final whistle between some Gremio supporters and the police. Ronaldinho’s training club remain on a nasty streak of six defeats in eight matches and are in 19th place in the Brazilian league. He recently fired his coach, world champion Luiz Felipe Scolari, but not all the problems have been resolved …
