Last Women’s League club competing in the round of 16 of the Coupe de France, Saint-Amand-les-Eaux was not worried by Calais in a derby from the North. Cherbourg-en-Cotentin has also validated its ticket against Chartres.
The Women’s League clubs were not at fault. After Angers this Monday then Landerneau and Charnay this Tuesday, Saint-Amand-les-Eaux concluded the clear round of the elite clubs in the round of 16 of the Coupe de France. On the occasion of a derby from the North on the floor of Calais, the players of Hainaut signed a clear success which was built from the second quarter. Despite a Fleur Devillers great evenings (25 points), the Calaisiennes cracked against the solid defense set up by Philip Mestdagh. Led by Elin Gustavsson (21 points, 5 rebounds), Saint-Amand-les-Eaux was able to take a 20 point lead at the end of the second quarter. With pride, Calais stood up to his opponent on his return to the floor but the gap was too large to hope to create the feat. After having known the Calaisiennes to come back to fifteen points, Saint-Amand-les-Eaux knew how to put on a final blow to win by 22 lengths (72-94). The last match of the round of 16 opposed two LF2 teams and, thanks in particular to Akela Maize (11 points, 8 rebounds), Cherbourg-en-Cotentin had the last word against Chartres (69-61) to join the four other teams qualified in the round of 16, in which the clubs entered in the Eurocup will also take part on December 4.
