Unusual news during this summer transfer window! The Newcastle club have recruited a young Mexican by the name of Santiago Munoz. A fun cinematic coincidence.
Certainly, the transfer of Lionel Messi to PSG, the return of Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United or that of Griezmann at Atlético seem more exciting than the arrival of the new signing from Newcastle. Still, for movie fans, it’s arguably the most unusual transfer of this year.
Newcastle have signed a young Mexican striker by the name of Santiago Munoz. This means nothing to you ? This is the name of the character, played by Kuno Becker in the trilogy Goal. The first part traces the journey of a young Mexican, named Santiago Munez, who manages to find a place in the Premier League, in Newcastle.
A legendary film for fans
Although this film did not become a classic on the big screen, many young football fans often identified with Santi Munez. The striking scenes of the first part remain the meeting between the main character and Zinédine Zidane and David Beckham or when the latter, as a child, is forced to put pieces of cardboard under his socks as shin guards.
Santiago Munoz, the 19-year-old non-fictional striker, is estimated at € 1.5million in the transfer market. Newcastle have signed a contract in the form of a one-year loan with former club Santos Laguna playing in the Mexican Premier League. The beautiful story!
