Alexander Zverev is the first player to win two Masters 1000s in 2021. After his success in Madrid, the German won in Cincinnati. In the final, he beat Andrey Rublev in one hour (6-2, 6-3).
Alexander Zverev will go to the US Open having won 14 of his last 15 games. After the Tokyo Olympics, he went on to win the Cincinnati Masters 1000. After losing his first set of the week in his semi-final against Stefanos Tsitsipas, the German rectified the situation by taking only one hour to beat Andrey Rublev in the final (6-2, 6-3).
He was just too strong for the Russian. The Olympic champion did not leave much hope for the one who was aiming for his first Masters 1000 success. The world number 5 started the match by taking the serve game from Andrey Rublev. He then continued by confirming his break. Then he started again to lead 4-0. The difference was already made and Alexander Zverev could savor the victory of the first set less than 30 minutes after the first rally.
Not satisfied by this ideal start, nor by the three titles already acquired this season, the German continued. He started the second round like the first: with a break. But this time, the 24-year-old waited to lead 3-1 to achieve the double break. A lead that was not too much to overcome an overwhelmed Andrey Rublev but catchy to the end. Alexander Zverev’s first moment of relaxation came with the loss of his serve game. A simple setback for him. He won his second Masters 1000 of the season, he is the only one to have succeeded, on the faceoff of his opponent. With this victory, Alexander Zverev confirms that he is the fit man of the summer. After his Olympic title, he knew perfectly well and will be a serious contender for the coronation at the US Open.
