No surprises in the first round of the WTA tournament in Cincinnati. Barbora Krejcikova and Petra Kvitova have upheld their seed status. Guest, Jil Belen Teichmann outclassed Sorana-Mihaela Cirstea (6-2, 6-0).
The first two seeds to enter the tournament in Cincinnati won without shaking. Barbora Krejcikova and Petra Kvitova enforced logic. In straight sets, they beat Daria Kasatkina (6-3, 6-2) and Madison Keys (7-5, 6-4). If the favorites easily won this Monday in Ohio, the most convincing victory of the day is to be put to the credit of a wild card: Jil Belen Teichmann. Invited, the Swiss won in 1 hour against Sorana-Mihaela Cirstea (6-2, 6-0). The Swiss left only two games in the 40th of the WTA rankings. Without a slump at 4-0 in the first round, Jelena Ostapenko could have done the same against Tamara Zidansek (7-5, 6-1). Her difficulties in finishing the first set were the only black spot in her straight-set victory over the Slovenian.
