Great victory from the outset for the Bleues in rugby 7. Opposed to Fiji, the French turned the tide to win 12-5.
Sacred the day before in the men’s table, Fiji had a more delicate start this Thursday at the Tokyo Olympics with the women’s defeat against France 7. The Pacific players had started well with Viniana Riwai’s first try (0- 5). But later, Tricolores captain Fanny Horta flattened a converted try by Caroline Drouin to take the lead (7-5). In the second period, Séraphine Okemba hit the nail on the head with the second try, sealing the fate of the Fijians (12-5).

A great introduction for French rugby who had failed to qualify for these Games in the men’s tournament. Later in the Japanese day but at 10 am French time, the Bleues will face Brazil for their second match in Pool B. The third and last match against Canada will take place the next day.
