For some Italians, the celebrations of the title of European champion had dramatic effects. On the one hand, in Milan, in Cathedral Square, several people were injured in different circumstances and mostly accidental.
In particular, a man lost three of his fingers due to the explosion of a firecracker. On the other hand, the festivities were mourned by the death of a 22-year-old Italian boy. The young man was killed while driving his car on his way to Caltagirone, a town in southern Sicily, to celebrate the Squadra Azzurra victory with his friends.
Death in a settling of scores
The second drama of the evening is the murder of a man south of La Botte, in Foggia. The killer, on a motorcycle, took advantage of the festivities to shoot his target as part of a settling of scores between rival gangs. Present at the time of the attack, the six-year-old niece of the deceased was also said to have been hit on several occasions. According to information from L’Équipe, she is in hospital in very serious condition.
