Kristina Mladenovic was eliminated in the round of 16 of the Birmingham tournament by Anastasia Potapova, who was less well ranked.

Victorious over her compatriot Fiona Ferro on Wednesday after a fight in three sets, Kristina Mladenovic fell in the round of 16 this Thursday in Birmingham. The Frenchwoman, 59th in the world, lost 6-3, 6-3 in 1h12 against Anastasia Potapova, 82nd. The Russian started the match very well by breaking from the start, then she saved three 4-4 balls before signing a new break, white, at 5-3 to pocket the first set.

In the second, Potapova quickly escaped, leading 5-0, and Mladenovic erased a late break, but not two, and therefore lost. “Kiki” will now go to play in the qualifications of the Eastbourne tournament, while his opponent will challenge Ons Jabeur for a place in the last four. The Tunisian, seeded No. 2, defeated young Canadian Laylah Fernandez in three sets and 2:06 hours of play: 6-4, 3-6, 7-6.

Like Potapova, Jabeur got off to a great start, leading 3-0, then winning the first set. But Fernandez tied a set everywhere by breaking 2-1. In the third, Jabeur led 2-0, then her opponent equalized at 2-2, and it was all decided in the tie-break, where the Tunisian made her experience speak by winning 7-3.
