In the 1st night session in the history of the tournament, Serena Williams provided the essentials against Begu.

History will remember that the very first night session at Roland Garros, unfortunately behind closed doors, saw the victory of Serena Williams against the Romanian Irina Begu. The world number 8 and triple winner of the tournament won in two sets (7-6, 6-2) against the 74th in the standings. She did not go for a walk, far from it. The American also stuck in the first set, 5-3, while she was on the way to quietly take the lead. Suddenly less sharp, especially on serve, Williams even had to save two set points a little later in the decisive game, before regaining her superb and leaving nothing but crumbs to the Romanian, which then completely exploded in the second set. First player to win in the night-session Porte d’Auteuil, the former world number 1 will be opposed in the second round to another Romanian Buzarnescu
