Edouard Mendy delivered a sparkling new performance in Chelsea’s goal against Real Madrid (2-0).
Long criticized, the impressive recruitment operated by Chelsea last summer is paying off. Wednesday, during the return match against Real Madrid, Timo Werner indeed scored the first goal, Kai Havertz delivered an assist on the second goal and Thiago Silva held the barracks in central defense.

In the goals, Edouard Mendy, recruited for 24 million euros at the end of the transfer window, was not left out. The former Rennais was indeed once again monstrous, signing several decisive saves. And once again, the native of Montivilliers ended the meeting with a clean sheet.
This clean sheet is indeed his eighth this season in the Champions League. Enough to allow him to sign a new record by becoming the goalkeeper of an English club with the most clean-sheets during a Champions League season. He thus surpasses Petr Cech, who stopped at seven in 2007-2008 and 2013-14.
