Istanbul: Abandonment for Ferro

After conceding the first set and without showing any sign of injury, Fiona Ferro retired to Sorana Cirstea in the quarterfinals of the WTA Istanbul tournament.

Fiona Ferro will not see the last four in Istanbul. The French, 57th player in the world, was unable to go to the end of her quarter-final which opposed her to Sorana Cirstea. A meeting that the Habs had yet started well with the break in the fourth game but, while the two players showed a certain inconstancy in the service, it was a series of four lost service games that was launched. Regaining momentum and, obviously, taking advantage of the physical worries of Fiona Ferro, Sorana Cirstea was able to win four consecutive games to take the advantage in this quarter-final.

It was in the middle of the first game of the second round that Fiona Ferro, after having notably dismissed a break point, went to see her opponent to notify him of her abandonment (6-4, 0-0 in 1:06 ‘). The Romanian will find for a place in the final the Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk, who needed three sets to overcome Ana Konjuh (7-5, 4-6, 6-3 in 2h28 ‘).
