On his floor, Chaumont won the first leg of the men’s League A final in four rounds against AS Cannes and took a step towards the title of champion of France.
Chaumont assured on his floor. Playing the first leg of the Men’s League A final at home due to his lower ranking after the regular season, Silvano Prandi’s players got the best out of AS Cannes, they who remain on an exploit against Montpellier, who was seeded number 1 in these play-offs. Taking advantage of Lincoln Williams’ efficiency (20 points) on serve, the Dragons quickly took the advantage at the start of the first round, with a lead of up to six points. But, without panicking, the Chaumontais took advantage of their opponents’ wanderings to return gradually. After missing three set points, Cannes gave in (27-25 in 28 minutes). A scenario that did not go far from recurring in the second set. Indeed, winning the first three points, the players of AS Cannes took the lead during the first half of the exchanges before giving up ballast and allowing Chaumont to gain the upper hand. However, a last boost after dismissing a ball from two innings to nothing allowed Luc Marquet’s players to pick up again (25-27 in 30 minutes).
Chaumont finished with a bang
An equalizer that was not to the taste of the teammates of Jesus Herrera (25 points) who forced the entry into the third round to take four lengths in advance. But, faced with the insistence of Cannes, this mattress was reduced before disappearing. This did not dampen the ardor of Chaumont because the CVB52 players resumed their march forward, rebuilt their lead to capitalize on it and regain control in this first leg (25-23 in 27 minutes). Back to the wall before the return match and a possible beautiful on their floor, the Dragons took control from the start of the fourth set but never managed to take more than two points in advance. An inability to take cover which proved fatal for Luc Marquet’s players. The latter have, in fact, cashed a 6-0 which allowed Chaumont to widen a gap of seven points which then continued to grow to reach ten points when the Haute-Marne players had their first match point. It was however in the third that the Chaumontais put an end to the debates (27-25, 26-27, 25-23, 25-16 in 1h48 ‘) to take the advantage in this final before going to Cannes this Saturday.
