This Monday, the British driver George Russell (Williams) took to his various social networks to apologize to the Finnish Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes), after their accident on Sunday.
It was, without a doubt, the image of this Grand Prix of Emilia-Romagna in Italy. This Sunday, on the occasion of the second round of the Formula 1 world championship, the Briton George Russell (Williams) and the Finnish Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) collided violently at more than 300 km / h. If the two pilots came out of this particularly impressive crash unscathed, this big accident had angered the Briton, who had rushed towards the Finn. The television images had notably shown that Russell had tapped on Bottas’ helmet, before the latter responded with a middle finger. Finally, this Monday, the Williams pilot seized his various social networks to apologize.

George Russell press release
“The day yesterday (note: Sunday) is not the one of which I am the most proud. I knew this would be one of our best points scoring opportunities this season and when those points matter as much as they mean to us now, sometimes you have to take risks. It didn’t pay off and I have to take full responsibility for it. Having taken the time to think back to what happened next, I now know that I should have handled this whole situation better. Emotions can be strong in the heat of the moment and mine did not show me in my best light yesterday (editor’s note: Sunday). I apologize to Valtteri (editor’s note: Bottas), my team and anyone who felt disappointed with my actions. It is not representative of me and I expect better from myself, just as I know that others expect better from me. I learned very hard lessons from this race weekend and this experience will make me a better driver and a better person. Now my full focus is on the Portuguese Grand Prix and an opportunity to show who I really am. Thank you for all the posts, whether positive or negative. They will all help me grow. “
