After a quiet week on the WTA Tour, with just one tournament played in Charleston, the rankings updated on Monday are logically similar to last week’s.
Before lining up for the WTA 500 in Stuttgart or WTA 250 in Istanbul this week, the world premieres were at rest last week. As a result, no change is to be noted among the top 20. However, Ons Jabeur, the best ranked in Charleston, takes the opportunity to get closer thanks to her final in the United States. With 2350 points now, the Tunisian gains two places and is 25th, about 500 units behind Marketa Vondrousova (20th). The two losers of Jabeur’s little leap are the German Angelique Kerber and the Estonian Anett Kontaveit. Behind, the Czech Barbora Krejcicoka lost four places, which notably benefited the American Amanda Anisimova and the Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. Semi-finalist in Charleston, the Montenegrin wins two ranks and passes 63rd.
Two great progressions outside the top 100
For their part, quarter-finalist, the Japanese Nao Hibino (82nd) and the Danish Clara Tauson (96th) go up respectively six and five places. But, the two best progressions are outside the top 100. Thus, the Australian Astra Sharma, who won the tournament in Charleston, gained 45 places on Monday and ends up 120th with 714 points, less than 150 units from the Italian Martina Trevisan (100th). Stopped in the semifinals by Sharma, Maria Camila Osorio Serrano still saw her ranking improve considerably. With 18 ranks won, the young Colombian is now 117th. The only Frenchwoman entered last week, and although beaten in the 1st round, Alizé Cornet remains in 59th place. With in particular this week Barty, Halep, Kenin Svitolina in Germany, or Mladenovic and Ferro in Turkey, the WTA ranking could well know more important people next Monday.
